Facebook and its partners have finally launched the much speculated app for those who are interested in making a career change on Wednesday called the Social Jobs App. The social networking website managed to pull this huge task off with the help of it associates, which includes big names and Facebook users like the U.S. Department of Labour, the Direct Employers Association, the National Association of State Workforce Agencies and the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
The purpose of this much anticipated app is to allow recruitment companies to use the wide reach ofFacebook’s platform in order to share job listings with its 1 billion users. This will open new avenues for recruiters as Facebook has such a diverse user base as compared to some other sites dedicated to the employment field. Moreover, it is because of its huge base of users that many observers believe the Facebook’s Social Jobs App will remain a far better medium than even professional networking website LinkedIn because it allows users to reach out to more non-professionals as well as those early in their career.
On top of all that, the new feature started off with a bang, as recruiters like Monster.com, Work4Labs, BranchOut, Jobvite and DirectEmployers together shared 1.7 million job listings with the Facebook community through the app. These 1.7 million jobs can be searched on the basis of skills, location and industry. Half of the employers in the U.S. are already utilising Facebook to hire new employees to some degree according to the latest NACE data and with the introduction of Social Jobs App, 54 percent of these firms are saying that the social networking website will become an integral part of the hiring process.
Vice President for Global Public Policy for Facebook, Marne Levine said on this occasion that, “Facebook is all about connecting people, and we’re thrilled to see developers leveraging our platform to connect job seekers and prospective employer. By allowing job seekers to view and share job openings based on personalized criteria, like location and industry, the Social Jobs Application builds on our broader effort to help people use social media to find jobs in the U.S.” The CEO of Work4Labs, Stephen Le Viet said that with the introduction of Social Jobs App, people will, “realize that Facebook isn’t just about pictures and friends, it’s about social connections you can use to find your next job or hire someone.”
We anticipate that the success of the new feature will bring the exciting app to Canada and aid recruiters and job seekers alike in finding jobs that are an ideal fit for all parties involved.
