Facebook is taking revenue generation to a whole new level. According to the social media network, it is testing out a new money making model whereby users wishing to send messages to people not on their friends list will be charged a certain amount.

The price for that message just $ 100.

According to the folks over at Mashable, they found out that they can inbox Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, for that price which will send their message directly into the inbox instead of the “other” folder.

Facebook has confirmed the existence of the $ 100 option and it seems that the social network will charge such a high price to message those people who are hugely popular. Other average Joe’s that you want to message will cost just $ 1 for the privilege.

Still in the test phase the project will likely entail users getting bespoke price points for people they wish to inbox with more popular profiles costing more to message to. Mashable discovered the feature near the end of December 2012 with other users also seeing the same $ 100 price to message other users.

Facebook in its response to Mashable said that it is testing out such extreme price points in order to see what filters out spam messages the most.

This can be a huge risk for Facebook as it can incur the wrath of its users who might feel being used for their money. Still in the testing phase such a move may lead to a fresh revolt by Facebook’s huge user base the world over.
