Over a period of time several Canadian startups have made their countrymen feel proud of them by winning different competitions and honours. However, the leading video learning site, MediaCore has taken lead from its fellow startup companies, as this Victoria-born venture has been included in the index of the world’s most innovative companies in digital video by Fast Company. On top of that, MediaCore was able to make it to the top ten, as Fast Company ranked it as world’s 9th most innovative company in digital video category. As a result of this honour, today MediaCore is standing next to big names like YouTube, Hulu and Vimeo, which is great feat for this startup.
MediaCore said in statement that, “It’s not every day that a company in Victoria is listed along titans like YouTube, Vimeo, and Hulu, and it speaks volumes to the quality of the product we’re building as a company and the team behind it.”
Mentioning the reason for ranking MediaCore at number nine, Fast Company said that it has been “enticing universities and K-through-12 schools to build their own YouTube channels.” Nevertheless, this was not the first time that MediaCore has won an honour, as the company has set up a separate page on its website that enlists all the honours and awards the video learning platform has achieved since its inception.
Due to its ever increasing popularity, this Canadian startup started to stretch its wings from 2012 in order to reach out to 5.5 million students during each month. Now MediaCore is looking to work on its other plans, which this startup has detailed as:
“We’re planning on solving a lot of the tough challenges surrounding how to deliver educational content in both online and offline environments, which we see as massive problems in developing countries, and also in environments where internet connectivity is limited. We’ve got some great projects lining up with some huge international organizations who are interested in having us help them in solving these problems and we’re really proud to be part of a story that’s helping improve learning outcomes in areas with significant challenges.”
MediaCore came into being in 2011 after which this Canadian startup successfully seized $1 million in funding and then, acquired the services of an ex-executive of Apple. The company initially did not have many employees, as their count till last year was just four, whereas now it has 22 staff members, who have been hired during last eight months.
