On Monday, November 12 legendary guitar-maker Fender released their latest product, the Squier Stratocaster with mini-USB output. The electric guitar allows the user to plug it directly into a PC or iOS device. This ability lets any user record and manipulate their music digitally without the help of expensive studio equipment, a boon for aspiring musicians.

Apple’s Mac computers have been at head of the pack in giving aspiring artists and working musicians’ low cost options to record and work with their music. Applications like GarageBand are user friendly and available on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch making it a great option for beginners. The only problem left was getting the music from the instrument onto the Apple device or PC.

Previously, musicians had only two options. They could either connect an amplifier or use a USB connection. The first solution required expensive equipment and lots of experience to get good quality sound. The second option is far from reliable and quality is all over the board. For musicians just beginning in the field issues like this can be a major barrier to entry.

The new Fender Strat has removed this obstacle and users can plug it into a regular amp or into their computer as they please. The guitar is retailing from Apple for $199.95 and also comes with a mini-USB to 30-pin connector to connect with any iOS device. Fender has firmly placed itself in the forefront of harmonious human and technology controlled musical equipment with its new release and others are sure to follow.
