Startup FreshDish Gives Busy Families the Resources and Ingredients to Cook Fresh Healthy Foods at Home

FreshDish is a startup backed by Los Angeles based technology incubator, Science  whose mission is tonhelp families eat better by cooking fresh and healthy foods that are prepared in the least time consuming methods Possible. FreshDish offers users a chance to sign up for different predetermined plans. Ones this is done, the startup delivers all the required ingredients fresh to the users doorstep. The idea is that all the available dishes can easily be prepared in half an hour with fresh and healthy ingredients.

 

FreshDish lets users select a different menu every week, but for people who have a hard time deciding what they want they have a service were their chefs decide the menu. Eating healthy doesn’t mean that the food is going to taste horrible, in fact the results are quite the opposite. The startup’s menu includes amazing and diverse dishes like lamb meatballs, Thai green curry, and jambalaya.

 

With each delivery the family receives all the ingredients for two dinners. They delivery also comes with very detailed recipe cards and instructions on how to cook the meal. FreshDish even chops and preps all material beforehand so all the user has to do is follow the instruction and have a hot meal in 30 minutes. The pricing isn’t expensive either, with one kit costing as little as $8.

 

FreshDish announced during its launch that they would be getting $500,000 from Battery Ventures for their offbeat company. The startup also announced that an iPhone app was ready to be released soon.

 

Science co-founder, Mike Jones, spoke about how his firm focused on revenue instead of pure technology an stated that, “In L.A., there’s not that many large tech companies, so there’s not too many opportunities to build out your team. But there’s more opportunity to build out your revenue … People here want to build real businesses with profit, [and] we’re gonna build a whole breed of businesses over the next year that are incredibly successful.”

 

FreshDish is not the only food and technology startup from Science and the company recently created Urban Remedy. This company offers a subscription based information portal dealing with fresh organic juices for detox and cleansing.
