According to a couple of highly reputable sources, Apple is already producing the displays for a 13.3” MacBook Pro featuring the company’s Retina display.
The good news comes by way of CNET, who was tipped by industry analyst Richard Shim of NPD Display Search. According to Shim, the displays are already being mass produced and will be for MacBook Pros and not MacBook Air, although the latter is expected to receive a similar screen update in the future.
The displays, which are being made by Samsung (I guess business is business), LGD and Sharp feature an incredibly dense 2,560×1,600 pixels. It is expected that many more 13.3” screens and devices overall will be produced as compared to the current Retina display 15.4” model. The discrepancy in production will likely see one to two million 13.3” devices as compared to a few hundred thousand 15.4” laptops.
Samsung produced a significant amount of the new Retina display iPads, using their skill labour and innovation to easily meet Apple’s stringent demands and expectations.
The biggest benefit of a 13.3” Retina display lies in its significantly reduced price as compared to larger variations of the MacBook. The current 15.4” device retails for a whopping $2,199 which is too rich for many people’s blood. The 13.3” with its light frame and compact size will likely be a major success as the current iterations have been thus far.
We at TQ expect the 13.3” Retina display MacBook to be released late this fall as the holiday season is within sight.
