As technology continues to advance the way people interact with their computers and laptops, some startups have also moved in innovative and more interactive directions. The keyboard gave way to the mouse which has now been partly replaced by touch screens. Multi touch based control is now in danger of being replaced by gesture recognition devices. Another contender for the future of computer interaction is vision tracking.   The upcoming CES 2013 in Las Vegas will be giving the world its first look at the Tobii REX. The small device is an eye-tracking computer peripheral which will connect to the bottom of a PC or laptop. It is then connected to the computer through a USB port allowing the user to control the mouse. A person can utilize the Tobii REX to point, scroll, navigate, zoom and select using their eyes.

The makers of the device, Tobii Technology, brought the world’s attention to the Tobii Gaze exactly one year ago at CES 2012. At the time it was showcased a new way to interact with Windows 8. The Tobii REX is an update of that initial step at any computer that is running Windows 8 use vision control.

The Tobii device may not be able to completely destroy the mouse and keyboard but it “reduces a majority of the fuss of moving the mouse pointer around and makes the computer interaction faster, more intuitive and more fun.”

Tobii REX can only be bought by developers for $995 but the company does plan on having a general release in 2014. Vice president of Tobii Technology North America, Carl Korobkin, says that, ‘Within the next couple of years we expect gaze interaction to be everywhere in consumer electronics.’ Check out Tobii Gaze’s awesomeness below.
