Google’s answer to Facebook, Google+ is slowly but surely growing in popularity with the social media network finally reaching the milestone of more than 100 million unique visitors per month.
It has been a slow and tiring climb for Google+ to enter this elite social media club since its launch in June 2011 and the network has now joined the likes of giants such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter as part of this exclusive club.
According to statistics reported by comScore, Google+ attracted 105 million monthly users in October last year compared to the 65.3 million that logged into the network during October 2011. The figures showcase huge growth for the relatively recent entrant into the social media scene with Google+ unique visitors rising by 60.9% in just a single year.
Compared to Facebook which showed just 4.3% growth during the same period, Google+ is actively attracting large numbers of new users but it still has a long way to go in order to reach the heights currently enjoyed by Facebook.
Google claimed in December 2012 that its social media network boasts 500 million members, 135 million of whom are active monthly. The network though is still lagging behind on mobile compared to the competition.
ComScore’s statistics on mobile usage show that Google+ is used by only seven million users compared to Facebook’s huge following of 91.3 million. This figure includes both access from mobile applications as well as mobile browsers.
There is still a long way to go for Google+ to become a threat to other established social media networks but the search giant’s platform is slowly but surely approaching closer to that goal.
