Google has done what cable companies have not been able to do for a very long time. The search giant has installed fiber thanks to its Google Fiber program in Kansas City that gives the users of the services the fasted internet connection in the United States. Reviews about the service have been quite positive with analysts mentioning that the internet speed was unimaginably fast also being fairly priced. The fact that the installation crew arrived exactly at the time they mentioned was an added bonus.

A major question that is now cropping up is whether the whole Google Fiber concept is just an experiment or an actual business for the technology giant. Google’s Chairman Eric Schmidt spoke at the DealBook conference and initially called it an “experiment” but then later on called it a “business.” The justification for calling it a business was because the firm is charging for the service. He also added that Google Fiber is looking for the next place in the country where the super fast internet service will be installed.

In order for Google to take on the major cable companies around the country it will need to spend almost $70 billion for half the United States according to a Goldman Sachs estimate. If Google is planning to spend that money is not confirmed but Schmidt did say that super high-speed internet could transform the country.

The Google Chairman also joked that there were other benefits like technology companies moving to Kansas to take advantage of Google Fiber and in turn increasing house values in the local area.
