Google Glass Stands Out At New York Fashion Week

Google is known for innovative software but the search engine behemoth has never been popular as a design based firm. That has been Apple’s domain and the maker of the iPhone has shown that design is just as important as functionality. Google may have been paying attention to the late Steve Jobs’ tactics and have tried to infuse their Project Glass with a sense of style. Google Glass made its debut on the ramp as part of Diane Von Furstenberg’s show taking place at New York’s Fashion Week and impressed many participants.

 

Google Glass is part of Google’s Project X department which is run by company co-founder Sergey Brin. The much talked about spectacles are a result of the technology giants attempt to create an augmented reality head-mounted display (HMD). From previous test runs and available details, the high tech glasses allow users to text people, take photographs, get directions or guide others. On the runway, Von Furstenberg is using Google’s innovative technology to create a film that will reveal all the action behind the curtain of here S/S13 collection during New York Fashion week. The end product will be available on the designers Google+ page and on YouTube. September 13 is expected to be launch date of the film titled “DVF Through Glass”.

 

The designer was pleased with the results of her models wearing the $1,500 spectacles and Von Furstenberg stated, “I am so excited to introduce Glass to the fashion world and use this revolutionary technology to give everyone a unique perspective into fashion.” Sergey Brin and his wife did not miss Google Glass and its debut. The head honcho of Google seemed pleased and told the media that, “beauty, style, and comfort are as important to Glass as the latest technology.”

 

Google is trying to improve the look of its glasses while at the same time using the fashion industry as a vehicle to give its device a cool factor. The fashion industry has been very quick to embrace the internet and all the technologies associated with it. The industry is a trend setter and Google is definitely eager to be part of the crowd.
