Since Samsung has launched its flagship Galaxy S IV smartphone, all sorts of rumours have been running rampant in the tech world. The most intriguing of these rumours was the alleged specs and image of the next Google Nexus smartphone that created a lot of waves in the industry. Given that the rumoured specs of the Nexus 5 were simply over the top and so far none of latest smartphones have offered something like it to their customers. It has been reported that Google Nexus 5 would boast an extremely powerful 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 16-megapixel camera, a 5.2-inch 1920×1080 OLED display that would be powered by a 3300 mAh Lithium Polymer battery, whereas its RAM would be of 3GB and it would be made available in three different storage capacities, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The tech analysts have barely digested the rumour, when a new report regarding the Nexus 5 has appeared online. According to that latest report Nexus 5 might sport revolutionary Nikon camera technology.
Phonearena was the first to report this news on Monday, March 18th. In that report it was claimed that Google Nexus 5’s camera module would boast a Nikon branding and “triple camera sensor thing.” It was also reported that the camera for the next Google Nexus phone would be the major selling point of the device. It’s worth mentioning here that the previous rumoured specs of the Nexus 5 sound pretty suspicious, as OLED is not simple to create and in fact a tech giant like Samsung failed to develop an OLED display for the Galaxy S IV. In addition to this, the combination of 3GB of RAM with current modules is simply out of the question.
However, when it comes to using a Nikon camera technology in the next Nexus smartphone there is a chance that this speculation could prove true because previously Senior Vice President of Engineering at Google, Vic Gundotra has revealed in a casual conversation on his Google+ account that “we are committed to making Nexus phones insanely great cameras. Just wait and see.” Vic said this in response to the question of a Google+ user, who said that, “I hope that someday we will carry our future Nexus and we won’t worry about any heavy camera 🙂 is that possible.”
In addition, Nikon and Google joined hands last year to release an Android-based point-and-shoot Coolpix S800c camera. Moreover, Google also obtained Nik software last year, which Nikon gave a minuet equity investment back in 2005, as reported by TechCrunch.
