Google has presented an American-built smartphone (Moto X) that is self driving. This project was started by Motorola before Google acquired the company last year. This smartphone has a voice control feature, and it always stays on listening mode.

Moto X carries the same technology that Google has used in the Google Glass spectacles. To make sure it does not randomly call someone you are talking about, all you have to say is ‘Ok Google now’ and your phone will start working without a single touch. The Guardian quoted Motorola’s Chief Executive Dennis Woodside as saying about the project:

“Google is the first to commercialise the self-driving car. This is the first self-driving phone.”

Moto X features a 4.7 inch all touch screen display, with a 10 mega-pixel back camera, and the starting price is $ 199 with 16GB internal memory. The phone’s main target market is the US, Canada and Latin America for now. Explaining features of the new phone, Motorola said on its website:

“Moto X is ready when you are. It responds to your voice – no touching necessary. With Touchless Control you can check the weather, get directions, or do just about anything without lifting a finger. Moto X doesn’t guess like other phones do. It knows.

“With Active Display, Moto X keeps the information you need to know at your fingertips. Instead of a constantly blinking light, important information quietly appears on the screen. It doesn’t interrupt. You don’t have to wake it up to look at the time or see your messages. Before you know it, that constant itch to check your phone will be gone forever.”

The users are also encouraged to design their own phones and choose from a range of options as per their need. Motorola says:

“Your Moto X is truly yours, because you design it. Through our online studio, Moto Maker, you choose the colors, and decide on the details: front, back, accents, memory, wallpapers, even add a name or a short message. When you’re done, we assemble your Moto X right here in the USA and ship it to you for free in 4 days or less.”
