When Hugo Bara, the president of product management for Android at Google was flashing the latest Nexus 7 tablet in front of the audience at its launch, no one would have wondered that soon he will resign from his post. Yes that’s right, Bara has decided to vacate his post, as he is soon going to join China-based smartphone maker Xiaomi. The skilful chap joined Google back in 2008 in the capacity of group product manager after leaving a post at speech firm Nuance. Since then Bara never looked back and eventually became the president of product management for Android at Google.

Now Bara is joining Xiaomi that manufactures high-level Android powered devices with heavy customised skin. The news got public when Xiaomi tweeted from its account that, “Xiaomi welcomes Hugo Barra and looks forward to him being a part of our ever-growing and talented team!” The Chinese smartphone maker also divulged that, “Hugo will be responsible for Xiaomi’s international business development and Android strategic partnerships. Welcome and let’s do sth big!

Shortly after these tweets Hugo confirmed the news by issuing the following statement over his Google+ account in which he wrote that:

“A new Android chapter

After nearly 5½ years at Google and almost 3 years as a member of the Android team — the most amazing group of people I’ve ever worked with in my life — I have decided to start a new career chapter.

In a few weeks, I’ll be joining the Xiaomi team in China to help them expand their incredible product portfolio and business globally — as Vice President, Xiaomi Global.  I’m really looking forward to this new challenge, and am particularly excited about the opportunity to continue to help drive the Android ecosystem.

It has been an amazing ride and true honour to be part of the Android team at Google, and I especially want to thank +Andy Rubin , +Hiroshi Lockheimer , +Sundar Pichai and +Vic Gundotra for their phenomenal support and mentorship over the years.

+Android team, I will truly miss you all!”

After this statement from Hugo, head of Android and Bara’s colleague Sundar Pinchai wished him best of luck by releasing the following statement:

“Congratulations to Hugo on his exciting new adventure. We’ll miss him at Google but we’re thrilled that he’s sticking with Android. Best wishes Hugo!”

This statement from the head of Android suggests that Hugo really has good relationship with his colleagues and staff.
