Video game developer startup, Green Throttle Games, has just received $6 million in their first round of funding from Trinity Ventures. The game developer is looking to implement a system that lets Android powered smartphones become game consoles for video games that can be played by connecting to television sets. Santa Clara based Green Throttle Games has stated that it will utilize the new found cash for game development initiatives both internally and externally. All work is expected to focus on the smartphone TV platform that the company is creating.

In early November the startup revealed itself to the world and also outlined its goals of creating the new Android based gaming console. The company is being led by Guitar Hero co-creator Charles Huang. He is joined by Matt Crowley and Karl Townsend who are both specialist in the mobile development field.

The idea behind the company is that users should be able to view their Android games on a TV so they can play their game on a very large screen. The company has developed an adapter that connects the Android powered device into the TV set. Another interesting aspect of the platform is that an analog controller wirelessly connects to smartphone so users get the feel of a standard console.

When the company came out of stealth mode, Huang sent out a release in which he said that, “Mobile gaming is exploding, and new smart devices are becoming powerful alternatives to traditional consoles. We just need a simple and fun way for people to play games both on the go, and on the couch.”
