Halifax based startup, LeadSift has successfully secured $500,000 in funding from OMERS Ventures. With this latest investment OMERS Ventures has extended its presence across this great nation of ours.
Managing Director of OMERS Ventures, Derek Smyth had the following to say regarding the aquisiton, “From Kitchener-Waterloo to Vancouver and Toronto and Montreal to Halifax, Canada has proven to be a hotbed of great ideas and promising young companies, and OMERS Ventures’ presence from coast-to-coast is a testament to that,”. “What we really like about LeadSift is its potential to flip the traditional online marketing model, allowing small and mid-sized businesses to proactively learn about potential customers and their preferences before spending their marketing dollars.”
On the other side of the investment, LeadSift will use these funds for hiring, marketing as well as sales and product development providing a solid foundation for the business moving forward. The startup was started to effectively excavate social media data, which is comprised of millions of posts that people make on social networking sites regarding their purchase intentions, interests and preferences in order to produce high-quality and targeted sales leads with the help of its convoluted online tool.
President and CEO of LeadSift, Tapajyoti Das said that, “There’s a vast amount of valuable data available on social media, but until now businesses haven’t had an effective way to translate this information into actual sales leads. Our online tool enables deep and real-time data analysis, generating a constant stream of high-quality leads and letting businesses instantaneously reach out to and engage with customers. Partnering with OMERS Ventures will allow us to continue to ready our product for commercialization, and lay the foundation for a long-term relationship.”
At the moment, LeadSift is in beta testing with clients from the consumer electronics, automotive, tourism and travel industries. Currently this startup is generating leads from Foursqaure data and Twitter, but in the near future it is planning to obtain lead information from various data sources such as forums, blog post and comments. In addition to this the Halifax based early stage company has allowed its new partner SalesForce Marketing Cloud to use its lead identification algorithm and it will continue to make such associations in the future as well.
