In comparison to Samsung’s flagship smartphones, HTC’s flagship devices have failed to get a good response from consumers and has caused the Taiwan-based company to once again post very unimpressive numbers in its quarterly report. However, with the launch of its latest flagship phone the HTC One, the Taiwanese company had a great opportunity to bank some cash before Samsung makes its Galaxy S IV available for sale in the market. But unfortunately HTC did not make the best of the opportunity and after delaying the One phone once the company has now delayed its release once again till the end of April. Many believe that this is a serious blow for HTC, as by pushing its HTC One smartphone in the market before the arrival of Galaxy S IV, the company would have been able to generate some good sales numbers, but that did not happen.
It appears that HTC has delayed HTC One over some manufacturing issues, but the Taiwan-based smartphone maker blames extraordinary demand behind the delay. Here is what HTC has actually said about the delay:
“HTC has seen unprecedented demand for and interest in the new HTC One, and the care taken to design and build it is evidenced in early reviews. The new HTC One will roll out in the UK, Germany and Taiwan next week and across Europe, North America and most of Asia-Pacific before the end of April. We appreciate our customers’ patience, and believe that once they have the phone in their hands they will agree that it has been worth the wait.”
Customers might not lose patience, but HTC is likely to lose lots of potential buyers for the new device because the comapny is taking on the very popular Samsung Galaxy S with the delayed HTC One phone. HTC will lose the advantage of being a first mover and even if the HTC One phone has superior components or specs it will have a hard time dominating Samsung’s brand value across the world.
Therefore, by releasing HTC One with Galaxy S IV, HTC has missed a golden opportunity of being a first mover. Who knows if HTC had released One phone in time it might have lured more consumers than anticipated with its brand new specs. Now HTC has to come up with a new and better marketing strategy to promote its flagship smartphone against S IV.
