Last Wednesday represented an important day in the tech world, as numerous companies related to this sector made important announcements, one of them being IBM. The multinational consulting and technology corporation declared on this day that it is going to buy Austin based StoredIQ, an information management firm based in Texas.

However, IBM did not disclose how much money it will spend to make this acquisition, but it is anticipated that this deal will be closed in the first part of the next financial year. StoredIQ is a specialised company that analyses and manages unstructured data for enterprises and it boasts around 120 customers today, which spans over healthcare, government departments, manufacturing industries and financial services.

With this acquisition StoredIQ will now become an important part of IBM, as it will be integrated with this American corporations’ Information Lifecycle Governance group. In this way it will allow IBM to help various enterprises in discovering which data is vital for them in both long and short term, so they would not have to waste much time in finding the right or valuable data.

This will also help businesses in cutting down all the necessary hardware, which they use to store their data. IBM explains the benefits of acquiring StoredIQ in its own words as:

“[Its] software provides scalable analysis and governance of disparate and distributed e-mail as well as file shares and collaboration sites. This includes the ability to discover, analyze, monitor, retain, collect, de-duplicate and dispose of data. In addition, StoredIQ can rapidly analyze high volumes of unstructured data and automatically dispose of files and emails in compliance with regulatory requirements.”
