Innovate Calgary has recently achieved another milestone as the Canadian company along with Alberta Deal Generator (ADG) have successfully developed a strategic partnership with the Canadian National Stock Exchange (CNSX). This was the first time that a technology transfer company in Canada has build up a joint venture with the Canadian National Stock Exchange. Describing the aim of their partnership Innovate Calgary stated that they will “enhance and support the technology and startup sector in Canada.”
The organization says that investors and technology entrepreneurs can “access the combined bench-strength of Innovate Calgary, ADG and CNSX: a commercialization centre, an angel network of investors, and a market for venture tech companies to list as they go public,” according to a report in TechVibes.
The CEO of Canadian National Stock Exchange, Richard Carleton has explained this partnership as, “CNSX is an innovative stock exchange with a focus on technology companies and the capital markets that support them. This partnership marks the natural evolution for CNSX as each party is strategically aligned to improve the financial environment for technology and industrial inn ovation companies.”
Mark Francis, who is the Western Canada Advisor for Canadian National Stock Exchange thinks this initiative “will result in efficient application of this mandate and enhance growth capacity for technology companies.”
On this occasion President of Innovate Calgary, Peter Garrett added that, “This partnership launches a major initiative to magnify the Alberta technology capital market. We are pleased to unite with CNSX. We look forward to this next step in focusing on investors as a major client group for us.”
Executive Director of Alberta Deal Generator, Henry Kutarna stated that, “In partnering with CNSX we assert our intention to bring on many more angel investors who want to add tech deals to their portfolio and who understand how CNSX ca n provide another road to liquidity. We are now able to offer our investors another path to exit—something our tech entrepreneurs also appreciate.”
The merger of University Technologies International and Calgary Technologies Inc. gave birth to Innovate Calgary that has taken tech to business by providing business incubator programs, technology transfer and services to entrepreneurs, businesses and researchers. Innovate Calgary has supported business creation for innovators along with licensing and development in the advanced technology division for over 30 years now. With this new partnership the company will look to work more diligently to accelerate its customers’ success in commercialization of their ideas.
