Innovate Calgary supports, facilitates and accelerates innovation in the technology sector and has stated on January 22 that its interim President, Peter Garret, will now be their new full time leader. The Canadian business which is based in Calgary says that this move “signifies corporate stability.” The organization also revealed that Garrett’s appointment as the President of Innovate Calgary came with the support of the company’s board of directors because they agree with his vision for the company.
Explaining the decision, the Chairman of Innovate Calgary, Michael Whitt said, “Over the past twelve months Peter Garrett has supported and enhanced Innovate Calgary’s clear focus and has developed a sound strategy to reach goals we as a board want to see. In order to achieve these goals, the right leadership needs to be in place, and we are confident that Peter Garrett is exactly the right person to realize those goals and focus on delivery of meaningful services and results.”
Another reason for giving Garrett a permanent role in the company was his experience in the commercialization of up-and-coming technologies, which according to Innovate Calgary has given him the required set of skills and insight to take the business to the next level.
On this occasion Garrett said, “I am excited to continue to advance Innovate Calgary as a leader in our industry. We have excellent relationships with our shareholders, including the University of Calgary, with whom we share aligning goals as they fulfill their ‘Eyes High’ strategy, and the City of Calgary and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. I look forward to continuing to build upon and strengthen these relationships as we bring Calgary into its role as a leading innovation eco-system in Canada.”
