CrackBerry reported on October 12 that Instagram will be released for BlackBerry 10. However, there has been no official announcement from Facebook, the owners of the social photo sharing site Instagram. The CrackBerry news release is the exact opposite of what VentureBeat had reported earlier in the day. VB claimed that Facebook was not going to be making an Instagram app for BlackBerry 10.
According to CrackBerry, Research In Motion has very stron ties to Facebook and the company fully expects to release Instagram for the BB10 platform. The author points to Facebook’s appearance at the keynote stage of BlackBerry Jam Americas where they showed off Facebook running on BlackBerry 10. The author argues that it does not make sense for Facebook to drop Instagram from BB10 after they have such a cozy relationship with RIM. CrackBerry was so confident of the news that the author of the post stated he would buy one of the commenter’s on article a brand new car if Instagram was not released for BB10.
RIM has really been pushing the development community to take up the new BB10 platform for their apps because the company has realized that a good developer ecosystem fuels sales of their devices. They have already confirmed that native apps for Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and LinkedIn will be available for BlackBerry 10. The VentureBeat report also stated that BlackBerry 10 will have a built in photo editor with filters so the loss of Instagram would not be a big deal.
The release of BB10 and related devices is still several months away and BlackBerry fans will just have to wait until the new products hit the market to find out exactly what RIM has in store for them.
