When a product establishes itself so well that people shop around only for the sole purpose of purchasing it and not even laying an eye on the competition; that is when you know you have taken over the market. The trend of less people buying a tablet computer in the second quarter worried manufacturers for obvious reasons. It seemed confusing at first as to why the tablet buying trend had slowed down. Some thought it may be associated with the fact that people are looking for something new, but in the end, it turned out that buyers are looking for a new and rejuvenated Apple product.

Launching a new iPad has not only benefited Apple itself as a company, but also its competitors as well as they get to shine for a while when analysts and consumers compare the iPad with other brands.

“A new iPad launch always piques consumer interest in the tablet category and traditionally that has helped both Apple and its competitors,” said Tom Mainelli, a research director at IDC, according to Huffington Post. “With no new iPads, the market slowed for many vendors.”

Spring has usually been the time when Apple chose to release its products into the market. That will not be the case this time around as the smartphone and consumer electronics giant is planning on capitalizing on the holiday season later on in fall. Even though other manufacturers released their newer models as scheduled, they did not see the same interest in their products solely because there is not a new iPad in the market.

Experts have regarded that the period from August to September should be considered weak as well for the tablet market. Sales should begin picking up in the holiday quarter as Apple will come out with a fresh product of its own to rattle the market once again. Amazon and Google are also expected to come out with new versions of the Kindle Fire and Nexus line-up respectively to compete with the iPad.

With 14.6 million shipments of the iPad made during the June to April period alone, Apple is still the leader in the market. Despite being as strong as it seems, Apple is slowly and steadily losing its hold on the market share. Competitors like Samsung and Google are making their way up with cheaper and feature packed tablets running on the Android platform.

It will be interesting to see whether Apple will amaze yet again later on this year when they release their new tablet.
