Japan to Rely On Automakers to Cover Smartphones Sale Decline

As the global sales of smartphones relatively decrease, the device manufacturers in Japan are now seeking to provide supplies to automakers. Generally, smartphones are prepared by robots that give better output and efficiency and the same can be done in different sectors that are driven by technology.

Robots are considered as one of the biggest strengths of the Japanese electronics industry. Almost all big electronic industries in Japan including Panasonic, Yamaha make components that are used to mount a robot. As per some rough estimates 10 robots can easily make about 5,000 smartphones per day.

The decrease in global smartphone sales has also added some pressure on chip mounters and many industry professionals and experts do not forecast blossoming prospects in the days to come. The second quarter of this year has not been very handy for smartphone manufacturers. Even Samsung, despite posing heavy profits, seems to be staying behind the target in terms of meeting the second quarter expectations.

Now if smartphone manufacturers turn to automakers, the shift should not necessarily be smooth. The advancement in technology has also changed dynamics of the autos industry. Automatic parking plazas, cameras, complex engines and electric cars are changing the global market rapidly.

So if these companies want to send their supplies to the autos industry they will have to apply and adopt different professional standards. Hiroshi Nakamura, a managing officer at JUKI, said (via AFR) of the new challenges:

“For the past several years the market has focused on smartphones, and that has meant everyone focused on making fast machines. Automakers have stricter safety concerns which means they avoid cutting edge components.”

The competition is tough for almost all of them as nearly everyone has set the same targets. However, it cannot be said at this point how lucrative this venture would prove to be for these companies. That said, it is an established fact that all the companies are going to, in one way or the other, cut the slack and hope to sure their profits in this ever-challenging and competitive sector.
