At the launch event for the Samsung Galaxy S IV, Mobile Chief JK Shin not only revealed the features of the latest smartphone from the South Korean firm, he also revealed some interesting information about Microsoft’s Windows based phones. Shin said that Android powered devices like phones and tablets have out-shinned Windows Phone devices and there is a huge demand for Android when compared to Windows. The Chief of Samsung Mobile Communications made this harsh statement about Microsoft’s Windows Phone during an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

Here is the exact question and answer from WSJ’s report:

“WSJ: What about your relationship with Microsoft? Has it changed after Nokia began to work more closely with Microsoft on Windows devices?

Mr. Shin: Smartphones and tablets based on Microsoft’s Windows operating system aren’t selling very well. There is a preference in the market for Android. In Europe, we’re also seeing lackluster demand for Windows-based products.”

Although, Shin has uttered some harsh words, but now it is an open secret that Microsoft’s Windows OS is not doing well in the market. It can also be judged from the fact that Microsoft’s Surface tablets also failed to impress the consumers and many reports have said that due to this reason its sales are lack lustre. Bloomberg has reported on Friday, March 15 morning that “people with knowledge about the companies sales” have said that so far Microsoft has sold roughly 1.5 million Surface tablets.

Though, it seems like a decent feat for Microsoft, it’s been quite some time now that the leading software developing company has launched Surface devices. On the other hand, Samsung has sold about 50 million units of the Galaxy S III so far and now its successor S IV is out and the Korean company expects to sell 100 million units of the smartphone.

So there is a big gap between the sales numbers of the two companies due to this reason Samsung is automatically more inclined towards Google Android OS for its devices. Nevertheless, this does not mean that Google and Samsung share a good relation, as reports claim that behind closed doors search engine giant’s executives are worried about the success of the Korean company. Whereas, Samsung is also looking to find a replacement for Android in order to reduce its dependence over Google.

Therefore, Samsung is developing a mobile OS dubbed as Tizen, which will shift the control to South Korean electronics manufacturer.
