It seems as if everyone in the consumer technology sector are introducing their latest and greatest this September. In a bold move, Canadian rooted and Japanese owned Kobo decided to make their announcement mere hours before industry titan Amazon was gearing up to have their own event.
The event introduced three new e-reader and tablet devices all with different selling points and features. The first such device is the Kobo Mini which features a 5” E-ink display, 2 GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi as well as Kobo’s social reading functionality. The Mini is attractively priced at $79.
The next featured device is the Kobo Glo, a larger 6” device with similar Wi-Fi and social features. The Glo also features a microSD slot for increased storage as well as a ComfortLight (hence the Glo) touch display with 1024 x 768 resolution. Competitor Barnes and Noble introduced a device with similar specs not too long ago known as the Nook SimpleTouch. The Glo’s battery can provide up to a month’s worth of reading and enjoyment if settings are kept at default.
Last but not least, Kobo also debuted the Arc, an Ice Cream Sandwich powered tablet. The Arc features innovative concepts including reading recommendations based on tendencies and tastes. The device features a 1.5 GHZ Texas Instruments processor and 1GB of RAM. The device can access the Google Play store thanks to its Android OS. The device will cost $200 for 8 GB of storage and $250 for 16 GB.
The devices come in black and white along with other bold and beautiful colours.
