The latest OS update for BB10 features a voice command system that sounds siri-ously (sorry…had to) to Siri. Such a system and its universal search functionality are a welcomed addition for developers and RIM fans alike, especially considering that Google has released what some believe is a superior product to Apple’s famous personal assistant feature.

Google’s latest, known as Google Now, Android’s voice command function benefits from the plethora of data and features that the world largest search engine developer has to offer.

As you can see and hear in the video below, BB10’s voice command does feature the same voice we have come to know as Siri’s. Although little is known at this point, it does lead one to suspect that the technology and functionality has been created by Nuance Communications, the same company that created Apple’s version that featured in the 2011 launch of the iPhone 4S.

Functioning on RIM’s latest piece of hardware the Dev Alpha, the voice command is accessed by pressing on the Play/Pause button found on the right side of the phone. Currently the system is rudimentary in terms of look and feel; however it is still an early stage beta. BB10 will be released in early 2013 and must bring everything and the kitchen sink to the table in order to compete with iOS and Android devices and software. The latest definitely represents a step in the right direction.
