Last week SamMobile shared some of the specs of Samsung’s much anticipated Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Now Gigaom has learnt a few more things about the Galaxy Gear smartwatch from some developers, who have the prototype device from Samsung. The latest report claimed that the forthcoming smartwatch will feature a dual core processor, 2.5-inch OLED screen, NFC connectivity, built-in speakers and an accelerometer. Here is an excerpt from the original report that shares the specs of Samsung’s smartwatch:
“It is said to be around 2.5 inches diagonally (and 3 inches diagonally including the case), is powered by a dual core processor and should have pretty decent battery life. In addition, we are told the watch has a camera that is integrated into the strap and even has tiny speakers in the clasp of the watch, plus built-in NFC to allow for bump-to-sync and authenticate. The watch uses Bluetooth 4.0 LE to connect with smartphones for connectivity… In addition, the watch has a built-in accelerometer that makes it possible to switch it on when it is moved up towards the eye. It could be a great way to wake the watch and also the apps and manage battery power. The watch screen will support the usual touch, swipe and select type gestures but will likely not have text-input.”
Besides this the report also highlighted that Galaxy Gear smartwatch will work with a smartphone through a Samsung watch manager app and use other apps from Samsung App Store instead of Google Play. However, the most interesting thing that Gigaom had claimed in its report was that Samsung smartwatch will be launched with Twitter and Facebook integration. As far as Samsung App Store integration is concerned it could mean that Galaxy gear smartwatch will only available to users, who own a Samsung device:
“For instance, if one has swiped through notifications, stops at an email blurb and then picks up the smartphone, the phone will display that email message attached to the blurb you were looking at on the watch. The company will feature integration with Twitter and Facebook at launch… That likely means if you want a Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, you’ll need a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet.”
However, unlike SamMobile, Gigaom’s report did not claim that Galaxy Gear smartwatch would boast a .5GHz dual core Samsung Exynos 4212 CPU, a 320×320 1.67-inch AMOLED display, a 2 megapixel camera and ARM Mali-400 MP4 GPU. So it seems that we have to wait for the official launch of Samsung’s smartwatch to known the actual specs of the device.
