When LG launched the 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro earlier this year, only a few observers were expecting the device to do well. Before producing the flagship smartphone the South Korean company was initially focusing more on emerging markets by developing inexpensive mobile phones. However, when numerous Chinese manufacturers snatched a big chunk of LG’s share from the emerging market the company decided to manufacture mid and high-range smartphones in order to compete with big tech companies like Apple, Samsung and others. As a result of that LG produced the 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro that took the market by storm and within just 40 days of its launch the company was able to sell half a million units of the smartphone. Now according to AndroidCentral, LG is celebrating a million sales of Optimus G Pro in South Korea, as the handset has achieved this milestone within just four months after its release in the country.
“The manufacturer claims that this is the fastest it has reached the 1 million device milestone in its own country, hitting it in just 4 months with average daily sales of over 8,000 for the period. LG Says this tops its previous record sales of the Optimus LTE in Korea, which took a full 7 months.”
One million sales mark means that about 2 percent of the population in South Korea now owns a Optimus G Pro, which is indeed a remarkable feat for LG that has recently shifted gears by discarding the manufacturing of inexpensive mobile phones for emerging markets. On top of it, the smartphone maker has made this achievement against Samsung that is also based in South Korea and holds more share in the mobile phone market than LG.
It is noteworthy to mention here that this was just local sales number of Optimus G Pro that LG has officially released. The company has yet to unveil its sales figures outside the country. This suggests that once LG will release the sales figure of Optimus G Pro outside Korea, it will further boost the repute of the company among the users. One cannot ignore the impressive achievement LG has managed to achieve with the launch of Optimus G Pro that was the first handset to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset.
Besides this Optimus G Pro also boasts a true Full HD IPS display, 13-megapixel rear camera along with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. In addition to this, with the introduction LG’s value pack now Optimus G Pro users can also enjoy air-touch functionality alike Samsung Galaxy S IV and Galaxy Note II.
