Microsoft has launched modern.IE, a tool that provides developers an opportunity to test their product’s compatibility with modern and older versions of Internet Explorer.
Even though IE has latest versions, many users still rely on old ones for browsing. This is not a very encouraging sign for developers who have to spend more time ensuring their products are compatible with the older versions of IE along with fitting the standards of the newer versions.
The main purpose behind launched modern.IE, as stated by the company, is:
“We recognize that there are still a lot of users that browse with older versions of Internet Explorer. And while modern web standards andautomatic updates with platform previews might be steps in the right direction, we know that the range of devices and browser versions still present a real challenge for your testing matrix. modern.IE is a way we can help move the web forward by making it easier to build innovative experiences with web standards like HTML5 & CSS3 while supporting older versions of IE.”
Meanwhile, Frederic Lardinois of TechChrunch has mentioned Microsoft general manager for Internet Explorer Ryan Gavin saying that modern.IE also has a scanner to check compatibility of a given page with the browser (modern and legacy versions). After checking if the scanner finds out any problems, it provides the developers ways to fix them so that their page can work in compatibility with Internet Explorer. Microsoft will also work directly with developers on certain issues that it cannot disclose publicly through the scanner.
