Microsoft’s antivirus solution, Microsoft Security Essentials has once again failed to gain independent certification after the software failed a test by the independent AV-Test Institute. This is the second time that Security Essentials has failed to meet standards of the testing institute.
According to a report, Security Essentials was one of three antivirus programmes that failed to meet the criteria, with Microsoft’s solution missing out by just one point on the latest test. The antivirus software is the technology giant’s solution against malware and viruses for small businesses as well as home users.
The tech giant though claims the technology is the same as used by large corporations, however, it seems that the software does not meet standards required to gain an antivirus certification from the testing institute.
AV-Test based in Germany tests a number of antivirus solutions available and details the results online for the public. All software tested by the lab are the latest publicly available versions.
Microsoft Security Essentials also failed a previous test by just a half point. The tech giant issued a press statement by Joe Blackbird, program manager, Microsoft Malware Protection Center regarding the latest shortcoming by its AV solution and said:
“We continually evaluate and look at ways to improve our processes. We know from feedback from customers that industry testing is valuable, and their tests do help us improve.”
Adding further he said:
“We’re committed to reducing our 0.0033 percent margin to zero.”
Blackbird also cited statistics to claim that the testing viruses used by AV-Test were not in line with common real world threats.
