When it comes to product announcements and launches, Apple rules the roost with its suspense filled invitations and genre changing products. Over the years Microsoft’s product announcements have been more straight forward and vanilla than competitors and do not have the glitz and glamour of other technology firms. However, this may be a reflection of the company culture of developing products that work without creating too much fuss. It is interesting to note however that two upcoming Microsoft events are creating a lot of much needed buzz. VentureBeat reports that it has received invitations to two venues for new product launches for the end of this month from the makers of the iconic Windows Operating System.

The first and arguably larger event is the Windows 8 launch which has been scheduled to be on the same day the Operating System will be available in stores. According to VentureBeat , there are not many details about the event except that guests are asked to come and “celebrate” Windows 8 on October 25. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will be at the event and he and his team are expected to showcase the new features and functions of the reworked PC operating system. Some observers also think that Microsoft will use the spotlight to talk about other products and upcoming launches including the Surface Tablet, Xbox Music and others.

On October 29, Microsoft will hold the second event in San Francisco and will focus on its Windows Phone 8. The media has seen a demonstration of the operating system but the company will probably give more details about Windows Phone 8 at the event. The idea may be to drum up interest before hardware partners like Nokia and HTC release their phones before the Christmas season.
