Coming to the end of July Minecraft – Pocket Edition took over the top spot in rankings for top paid iPhone apps in Canada according to The Canadian Press. The stats recorded Minecraft – Pocket Edition produced by Mojang, being positioned above Contra: Evolution by PunchBox Studios and ‘Heads Up!’ by Warner Bros. at number three.
For those who are unaware of what this app is all about, seeing the thousands of users who have given it a perfect rating can be intriguing. Basically, Minecraft is all about placing blocks to build things and going on adventures. The pocket edition is filled with randomly generated worlds that also allow multiplayer interaction over a Wi-Fi network. Survival and creative models are also available, while crafting and creating with your buddies can get seriously addictive.
Minecraft – Pocket Edition is doing well on the Android platform as it has managed to sell nearly 5 million copies and has garnered over 90,000 five-star ratings, making it one of the top rated apps on the platform.
After its release, the highly anticipated app sold over 100 million copies by the end of April and become one of the fastest growing apps in terms of user attraction.
With such a strong following, updates are continuously being developed by Mojang in order to keep users excited and also in solving any problems that may arise during gameplay. The next 0.7.3 update is expected to be released later on this year and will feature a totally new login system on the Android and iOS platform. This is supposedly to cure the problems with the login system of the previous version, which has been a headache for many users. The ability to reset your realm was another feature many players were hoping for, and in the latest updates, sources are citing a possibility of this now becoming a reality. What is still yet to be seen is whether this update will be just for Minecraft Pocket Realsm or for all in-game realms.
The remainder of the top paid app list looked something like this:
4 Pimp Your Screen (Apalon)
5 Plants vs. Zombies (PopCap)
6 AfterLight (Simon Filip)
7 Survivalcraft (Igor Kalicinski)
8 WhatsApp Messenger (WhatsApp Inc.)
9 Wipeout (Activision Publishing Inc.)
10 The Game of Life Classic Edition (Electronic Arts)
The 0.7.3 update is expected to be released officially by the mid of August.
