Every day more and more business professionals are storing data and files on their smartphones. This allows them flexibility and ease of use in the increasingly mobile workplace. Canon Canada has identified a growing need for busy people to connect to printers with their mobile devices and has released a mobile printing app for Apple’s iOS and Research In Motion’s (RIM) BlackBerry. This will allow users to integrate their smartphone directly to the Canon imageRUNNER and imageRUNNER ADVANCE. They will be able to use both the print and scan functions for documents on their smartphones by sending it to the printer or scanning a document from the device and sending the digital copy to their smartphone. User will not need to install any new drivers or connect to a separate server.
The new app also gives the mobile user the ability to manage the MFP and control “print finishing features, and scan options (e.g., select paper size selection, select scan resolution selection, duplex printing, colour vs. black and white, select number of prints, collate and more).”
In a statement that came along with the release of the app, Ian Macfarlane, Senior Vice-President of Sales and Service Operations stated, “The Canon Direct Print and Scan for Mobile application allows our customers to manage their printing needs on the go. The user’s workflow process is streamlined through instant access to important documents along with the ability to utilize Canon’s renowned printing technology for high-quality results.”
The iOS version of the app will be available on the App Store for the iPhone and iPad or on the iTunes appstore. BlackBerry users can grab the app from BlackBerry App World™ and the MEAP application from Authorized Canon Dealers.
