In 2012 Motorola started the Bootloader Unlock Program with the promise that “additional devices will be added progressively.” The Bootloader Unlock Program was basically a setup by Motorola where they offered their users the ability to gain root privileges. This is done by unlocking the bootloader which allows “basic hardware initialization, verifies the integrity of the operating system, starts the operating system, and provides a method to update device software”. This is something that developers and hardcore users would be interested in as a means to maximize their smartphones. Thanks to the program, the Rogers RAZR HD LTE is now part of the program and Canadian consumers can take full advantage of the device.
Rogers has not yet put the Motorola phone up for sale but it is expected to hit the shelves in the next couple of weeks. The announcement was made for the devices globally but unfortunately that does not include the US. Only RAZR HD phone available in Europe, Australia, South America and from Rogers themselves in Canada can be unlocked.
As usual the Motorola warning and conditions apply to the unlocking of the bootloader. The company mentions that after devices are unlocked all Motorola warranties will be void and any damage done to the phone will be at the users’ own risk. Of course, users can install any Operating System they want on said device but there is no guarantee that all the functions of the phone will work.
