Nest Labs Acquires MyEnergy to Help its Customers Keep Track of their Energy Usage

The maker of smart thermostats, Nest Labs, announced on Tuesday, May 7th that it has acquired MyEnergy. The acquisition will help Nest Labs give more information to its clients regarding energy usage, as MyEnergy provides an online service that keeps track of water, gas and electricity use from one control panel. Apart from the convenience of seeing the usage of energy, the Boston-based online service also enables  customers to compare and share their results with friends and family members. The service claims to have consumers in 50 different states in the US that spans over 1,500 utility regions.

 

Founder and CEO of Nest Labs Tony Fadell thinks that the acquisition of MyEnergy will enable Nest customers to use energy more shrewdly. He said, “Giving our customers more in-depth access and analysis of their energy usage has always been part of the Nest vision. We’ve made great strides in the past year and a half; by bringing MyEnergy into the Nest family, we can reach our goals even faster. The MyEnergy team is incredibly like-minded and we’ve already begun working with them to find ways to integrate their technology into Nest products.”

 

Co-founder and CEO of MyEnergy, Ben Bixby said on this occasion that, “With less than 25 percent of the U.S. population connected to the smart grid, we’ve focused on developing technology that makes it easy for people to access the information they need to make decisions about their energy use. We’re excited about the opportunity to join Nest to continue giving people useful, actionable information.”
