On December 5, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata showed a lot of game footage to the fans in attendance at his Japanese Nintendo Direct presentation. The Nintendo president also stated that Google maps and street views would also be available on the Wii U by the end of January 2013. He showcased the new capabilities by using the GamePad controller. He was able to swing the device around and get any view he liked of a location on Google maps including those underwater.
Observers have commented that the feature is similar to the previously showcased Wii U Panorama View that is expected by Spring 2013. This also gives the Google Street View a lot more involvement than regular users are accustomed to in their computer browsers. Users can move down roads by using the map view and street view on the TV screen or GamePad.
Nintendo intends to release the app and keep it free for two months. Any user that want it after the initial period will need to purchase it from the Japanese firm.
Nintendo Direct has been a great venue for the Japanese firm to share information with its target audience regarding content and the Nintendo gaming franchises. The online presentation for the Japan Nintendo Direct was done by Nintendo global president Satoru Iwata.
