Nokia and HTC have launched their much anticipated Windows Phone 8 mobile devices, the respective Lumia 920 and 8X. However, instead of giving users a unique and joyful experience, both devices from the respected hardware specialists have put their owners in trouble. Unfortunately for all parties involved, a significant number of Windows Phone 8 users have reported on various forums that they are encountering random freezes and reboots. These forums include both Microsoft and the WPCentral forum.

So far 157 posts on the WPCentral forum have seen replies against queries regarding reboot, whereas on Microsoft’s forum the amount of replies were 61 against such questions. On the other hand, Nokia’s support forum on the Lumia 920 is also experiencing the same types of querries as the number of its dedicated pages have grown to four now over freezing issue.

So far it is not clear exactly what the actual reason behind this issue is as different users have posted differing scenarios where the end result was irritatingly common. On WPCentral forum several users posted that they had faced fewer issues once they had uninstalled the Facebook app from their Windows Phone 8. In contrast other users who are blaming the NFC feature or HTC hub for this problem.   Therefore, it is hard to guess whether this issue is related with Operating System (OS) or specific maker’s handsets are encountering this problem. Since handsets of various mobile manufacturers are having the same problem, it seems that most likely that OS has something to do with the freezing and rebooting.

Both Nokia and HTC have acknowledged this problem. In a statement, Nokia revealed that there have been “reports of a small number of people experiencing this unusual performance on their Nokia Lumia 920″. The mobile manufacturer also noted in a statement that few apps are a potential cause of this problem:   “We are investigating but suspect some apps may be at the root of the issue when left running in the background. While we learn more, we advise people when finished with an application to navigate away using the back button to ensure it is no longer active.”   On the other hand, HTC told that they are currently investigating the problem in their labs and call centres.
