Rumours have been swirling in the tech world for quite some time now that Nokia is planning to produce a Windows RT tablet, but now people familiar with the matter have informed The Verge that such a device does exist and will soon see first light. The report also divulged that the slate is referred as Nokia Sirius, while the size of the device is 10.1-inch and it will be powered by Windows RT, an edition of the Windows that works with ARM chips. However, the negative thing about the Windows RT is that it does not support most of the Windows apps.

The leaked images of the Nokia Sirius had found their way to the internet even before this report and they are showing a red prototype of the device with Verizon branding that makes the tablet look like a big Lumia handset. Given that the colour and the design of the Nokia Sirius was not much different than a Lumia smartphone, same pillow shape exterior and vivid red shade over its polycarbonate body. But it is said that the upcoming slate of Nokia is much slimmer and lighter than Apple’s iPad, as the weight of the tablet is slight over a pound.

Apart from the leaked images of Nokia Sirius the specs of the much rumoured tablet have also leaked over the internet. Below are the specs of Nokia Sirius as listed by PhoneArena:

“10.1-inch 1080 x 1920 pixel display with brightness boost for better outdoor visibility

Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core chip

2GB of RAM

10-hour battery life

4G LTE connectivity

6-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front shooter

32GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD cards

microHDMI, microUSB ports”

It was also reported that just alike Microsoft’s Surface RT tablet, Nokia is also looking to offer the consumers of the tablet an optional keyboard that will have its own battery. Besides this, Sirius will also come with other accessories when Nokia will finally launch it.

Report also suggested that to launch the 10.1-inch Sirius, Nokia is looking to hold an event on September 26 in New York and it will confidently price the new tablet just like an iPad that starts from $499. If this price tag turns out to be true than it will be interesting to see how Nokia’s high resolution Sirius would do against Apple’s iPad because earlier Microsoft’s Surface tablets failed to generate much sales.
