Leaked images and rumours indicated some time ago that the Finnish mobile maker Nokia is all set to launch a game changing smartphone that will boast a 41-megapixel rear camera. So when Nokia unveiled the Lumia 1020 with 41-megapixel camera on Thursday morning, July 11th, it did not take many by surprise. However, with the introduction of the brand new Windows-based smartphone it is now believed that Nokia is looking to give a tough time to its rivals with the Lumia 1020’s extraordinary camera which sports five times more pixels than Apple’s iPhone 5 and three times more than Samsung’s Galaxy S IV.

Besides this, the Nokia Lumia 1020 also has numerous other powerful features such as optical image stabilization and high quality zoom. In addition to this, 1020’s rear camera has got a brand new feature known as dual capture, “which simultaneously takes a high resolution 38-megapixel image for endless editing opportunities, and creates a five-megapixel picture that is easy to share,” according to the TechVibes.

“The Nokia Lumia 1020’s 41 megapixel sensor features leading ZEISS optics with six physical lenses, plus optical image stabilization, delivering crystal clear pictures even in low light conditions. It also captures blur free videos with stereo sound even at the loudest concerts thanks to Nokia Rich Recording, which handles sound pressure levels six times louder than conventional smartphone microphones.”

Talking about the new smartphone, Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop said that, “We want to take people on a journey from capturing pictures to recording and sharing their lives. The Nokia Lumia 1020 will bring new meaning to pictures and continues to strengthen Nokia’s leadership in imaging.”

Principal device analyst for Ovum, Tony Cripps said that, “At a time when macro-level innovation has seemed to be lacking in smartphones—due to the homogeneity of smartphone operating systems and the drive to appeal to the mass market—Nokia’s Lumia 1020 demonstrates that there is still considerable scope to drive forward the user experience in core smartphone capabilities. This is evidenced not only in the Lumia 1020’s imaging prowess but also in its audio abilities, the company’s Rich Recording technology similarly transforms the Lumia 1020’s audio recording.”

When Nokia launched its Lumia 928 with 8-megapixel camera last year it was supposed to outshine all the smartphones in camera quality, but unfortunately that never happened, as the handset remained a great disappointment and was severely criticised by analysts. Nokia will try again and has planned to launch the Lumia 1020 on July 26th in the U.S. and in the next couple of months time it will release it in China and Europe. So far the Finnish handset maker has not revealed the launch date of Lumia 1020 for Canada.
