If you want to date or find other singles in Canada or any other country then, try out Ottawa-based startups SinglesAroundMe dating app that has recently skyrocketed in popularity. The social discovery mobile GPS dating app has stated that just before Valentine’s Day 2013, SinglesAroundMe has witnessed a 300 percent increase in daily downloads collectively in all three versions  including iPhone, BlackBerry and Android. This was a remarkable feat for the dating app that uses GPS so its users can get in touch with singles in their region, which creates the opportunity for singles to unexpectedly meet with someone around them, who has similar interests. Although, SingleAroundMe was developed here in Canada, people in other countries are also using it, as this app works in other parts of the world too.

Explaining the difference between other location-based dating apps and SingleAroundMe, the company said that they use geographical mapping to spot the location of singles in close by area or even next door. Due to this reason the company says whole experience of using SAM feels more real, social, instant and a great time saver especially for people, who usually do not have much spare time due to their busy schedule.

Founder of SAM, Christ Klotz said that, “Users are becoming more at ease with this new way of dating. They are finding it more fun and actually better than traditional online dating.”

SAM has been around from 2010 and has got over one million users in more than 100 countries. On top of it, all three Android, iPhone and BlackBerry versions of this popular dating app are available at this point in time. Now the latest Android and iOS edition of this app gives more control to users in revealing their locations to others:

“The just released next generation SAM iPhone and Android apps provides users with peace of mind while using the app. Users can now choose exactly how much—if any—of their actual location on maps they want to share; they can choose to keep it Exact, Hidden or now Approximate, which displaces their precise location on maps by approximately three kilometres.”

The company says that, “What this means for users is they now have complete control of their privacy. If they are at home and want to hide their location they can do so, but if they choose to switch their location to ‘Approximate,’ it displaces them outside of their immediate neighborhood. If they are out or feeling engaged they could switch their location to exact and meet people close by.”
