E-commerce platform Shopify had added a mobile app to their service repertoire, allowing business owners to track orders, monitor sales trends and interact with customers directly from their iPhone. The company, which boasts over 25,000 users including the likes of Gatorade, Foo Fighters, General Electric, Tesla Motors, Tata Group and Pixar has had mobile in their sights for some time.

In February of this year, Shopify acquired a mobile app development studio called Select Start Studios (S3) in order to bring in the requisite talent to create a solid mobile product.  The S3 acqui-hire represented the first major move for the Ottawa company following a $15M Series B funding round in October of 2011. The round included investments from Bessemer, FirstMark, Felicis and Georgian.

Shopify has been on an absolute tear since its inception in 2006. The company has allowed for anyone to create a mobile store.  Various packages are available, beginning at $29 per month for a Basic service plan and capping at $179 per month for an unlimited plan. The latter represents an incredible bargain for big time ecommerce operations.

The mobile app is previewed in the trailer below. It looks to be an excellent user experience and represents everything you would expect from a mobile application for an essential business service. Good on you Shopify. You can download Shopify Mobile here.
