Several analysts have repeatedly claimed that the regular old wallet has a bright future. However, it seems that PayPal does not agree with them and recently the worldwide e-commerce business has issued its latest survey, which suggests that a wallet will not do well in the future. Explaining the reason behind the bleak future of the wallet, PayPal’s research report revealed that most Canadians wish to seek a wallet-free life. Canadians are not the only ones, who do not want a wallet, as majority of the people in the UK, Germany and Australia also wish the same. According to the survey, nine out of 10 or 87 percent people in Canada would like to have a wallet free life, as they do not want to carry a bulky item. On the other hand, 23 percent or roughly one in four people between the ages of 18 to 24 years would like to use mobile payment method rather than carrying a wallet.

“Canadians are in good company: 87 per cent wish they could leave a wallet at home; Germans, Americans, Australians and Brits agreed overwhelmingly (90%, 86%, 80% and 76% respectively) that they’d like to leave a wallet at home;

Canadians are most likely to find themselves unable to make a purchase because they don’t have cash with them (75%); Germans are the least likely (57%);

The UK may be leading the charge towards a wallet-less future – 32 per cent reported they would choose a smartphone over a wallet when going out if they could only bring one item.”

Even though this number means a lot to mobile payment processor in Canada, but it seems that there is a difference between customer demand and reality. Supposedly about 75 percent Canadians fail to pay, as they do not have cash, whereas people at the age of 18 to 24 frequently face this problem in spite of several obvious efforts by the mobile industry in order to meet the demand.

However, since PayPal’s is not restricted to Canada therefore it is evident that ‘consumer frustration’ apparent in different parts of the world, which includes Germany, US, UK, Canada and Australia. Now summer vacations are not too far and people in Canada obviously have planned various activities, such as visiting the beach and etc, as PayPal’s survey indicate, Canadians do not want to carry their wallet to the grocery store, restaurants, bars and laundromat.

“The beach (70%) topped the survey as the place most Canadians wished they could go without a wallet, followed closely by the gym and while exercising (52%);

Canadians were also the most likely to wish they didn’t need their wallet at a bar, while Germans and Americans were most likely to wish they could attend concerts or sporting events wallet-free;

Canadians listed the Laundromat, grocery store and restaurants as places they wished they didn’t need to take their wallet with them.”
