Pebble, a smart watch that can sync with both iOS and Android based smartphones and runs an array of apps, was supposed to be dispatched to Kickstarter financiers in September last year. Unfortunately this never happened. However, Pebble Technology CEO, Eric Migicovsky, has made it clear on Wednesday at CES 2013 that they are finally shipping these smart watches to supporters of their Kickstarter campaign from January 23.
This news must have given the backer of Pebble watch a huge sigh of relief, as their long wait is now about to be over. The sponsors had to await this long because Pebble Technologies was facing problems in finishing the software as well as setting up the manufacturing of these smart watches. It took the company roughly three more months from the original date of shipping to develop the final product.
Backers will now probably be getting ready to get their hands on this smart watch that has an e-ink display and can run numerous apps including golf range-finder and pedometer. In addition to this, the users will also be able to control music on their smartphone with the Pebble watch and they can also use it for sending notifications for email, caller-i.d and Facebook.
Pebble Technologies has successfully raised $10.3 million from this smart watch campaign by selling out 85,000 units to 68,000 sponsors by May 18, 2012. However, so far the company has not mentioned anything about the retail availability of Pebble watches, but the watch is up for pre-order at a price of US$ 150.
