Pinterest Buys Food Focused Punchfork

The popular digital pin-board, Pinterest, announced on January 3rd that it has purchased Punchfork. The newly acquired website is a very similar to Pinterest and allows users to post food related images including recipes and amazing pictures of various dishes. The major difference is that Punchfork is food only and allows users to separate and categorize recipes.

 

Punchfork’s CEO Jeff Miller was excited about the deal and said in a statement after the buyout, “Pinterest is often described as a platform for inspiration, and we feel this aligns perfectly with the goals of Punchfork. We couldn’t be more thrilled to join forces with the Pinterest team in San Francisco.” The company also added that it will be closing out the mobile apps and website as it is absorbed into Pinterest.

 

Pinterest has been growing in influence as the social network gains more users. Right now the site has not monetized the large number of users it attracts but its acquisition of Punchfork shows that it has plans to keep growing for the foreseeable future. Punchfork uses “conversations on social networks to bring you high quality recipes that passionate cooks are talking about right now” and will be a valuable addition to the already popular food section of Pinterest.
