So far the pinboard style photo-sharing site, Pinterest has not started making any income but now it seems that it is gearing up to bring in a monetization model. On Sunday, May 19th the website rolled out two brand new features that will allow it to lure potential advertisers. The first feature will allow pins to be embedded with added information regarding movies, recipes and products, whereas the second trait is a Pin it button that is accessible through nine mobile apps. According to Pinterest, the new features are “first step toward making pins more useful.” However, the new pins will come with the new look of Pinterest that is expected to see first light in the middle of March.
Although, the latest features are not user oriented, the new look of Pinterest will surely accommodate them, as it will boost their engagement, which will also allow the website to decide charges for their services such as marketing opportunities and analytics.
For further details on the new features, see the official post of Pinterest below:
“When you find something you love on Pinterest, sometimes you want to learn more so you can act on baking those cookies, streaming that movie, or buying that couch. That’s why we’re taking a first step toward making pins more useful. We’re also making it easier to pin no matter where you are.
Here’s how:
Pins with more information
To start off, we worked with some popular websites to show more information on some pins, so you can do more of what you love. You might see:
–Product pins for things like clothes and furniture with pricing, availability, and where to buy (updated every day!)
–Recipe pins from your favorite bloggers and websites that include cook time, ingredients, and servings
–Movie pins with content ratings, cast members, and more
From your feed, you can tell when a pin has more information by the icon that appears below the picture. We’ll also update all of your old pins so they’re more useful, too. For an example, check out this board or just pin from any of these popular places.
For clothes, furniture, gifts and products:
Anthropologie, Asos, BHLDN, eBay, Etsy, Free People, Home Depot, Modcloth, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Overstock, REI, Sephora, Shopify shops, Shop Terrain, Sony, Target, Urban Outfitters, Walmart, Wayfair, Zulily

You can only see these new pins in the new look. To get the new look, click the Get it now button on top of your home feed. This is just the beginning and we hope to make all pins more useful in the coming months.”
