The gaming rumour mill is today filled with stories about the latest next-gen consoles that are expected to be released by Sony and Microsoft. With a number of leaks about hardware coming out during the CES 2013 exhibition that took place in Las Vegas now there is a much more clearer picture of the power that will be packed in these two highly anticipated new consoles.
Both Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox 720 are expected to be released later this year or early in the next and some concrete news about the CPUs and GPUs used in the new consoles have been leaked onto the internet.
According to the latest reports both consoles will be powered by AMDs newest chips which will truly bring new games to life. The Xbox 720 codenamed Darungo and the PlayStation 4 codenamed Orbis will boast 1.6Ghz CPUs with eight processing cores based on AMDs new Jaguar CPU architecture.
This is the only similarity as revealed by the latest stories both systems though have different yet powerful GPUs to deliver the best graphics based on AMD’s Radeon GCN Graphics technology. The PlayStation 4 like its predecessor will pack the bigger punch on graphics than its biggest rival with 18 Radeon GCN units included in the Orbis while the Xbox 720 will have just 12 Radeon GCN units.
The PlayStation has lower ram at 4 GB as compared to the new Xbox’s 8 GB of ram but the PlayStation has the faster GDDR5 type of memory. Both devices will pack Blu-Ray drives.
More news on the latest generation of consoles will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
