Although, Apple has released iPhone 5 just a few months ago, rumours regarding its next generation device have already started swirling in the tech world. However, not many paid attention to these rumours as they thought that it was simply too soon for Apple to be testing the next iPhone.

Now however, The Next Web’s Matt Brian has reported that an unnamed “developer showed us that Apple has been testing hardware relating to a new ‘iPhone6,1′ identifier, powered by a device running iOS 7, which is expected to be released by Apple in the middle part of this year.”

The current model of iPhone has ‘iPhone5,1′ and ‘iPhone 5,2′ as identifiers, which depends on bands as well as the LTE model of this smartphone. Still identifiers alone do not prove that Apple is testing a new phone and OS, however the IP address from which app requests have emerged belongs to the Cupertino campus of late Steve Jobs’ company says Brian.

Therefore, this IP footprint of Apple’s campus not only makes us believe that this is not a bogus attempt, but it also indicates the app and software development team of Apple are testing the compatibility of renowned applications which already exists on their App Store.

Aside from this, the developer logs that TNW’s reporter has seen do not show any details related to the software and hardware features, but the website’s sources have made it known that Apple has started working on the latest iOS 7 at the end of the last year. In addition to this, it was also learnt that the iPhone maker will soon choose the features that will become a part of its initial public release.

The appearance of the latest iPhone in developers log at this stage also implies that Apple may push the launch date of its next mobile phone, as the previous models had made their first appearance during fall for the last two years.
