This is the age of electronic gadgets. They are now essential in every field of life. From completing homework to doing business, electronic gadgets play a vital role. Businessmen in order to stay abreast with the latest news use latest tech gadgets while funky youngsters might just use them for fun.

Every day there is so much to do, from work to rest and play and gadgets play a role in all of them. According to a recent research, Australians everyday spend about 10 hours 19 minutes on electronic media, such as playing games on the computer, using the Internet, watching television, using smartphones and tablets.

According to McCrindle Research (via NewsNow), a common person can adopt multi-screening behavior. They while watching television can also use their tablets. They can spend a number of hours of digital media consumption.  Mr. McCrindle said: “This is the blurring of the lines in our 21st century life.”

Consumption of electronic media is divided into two age groups. Generation Y, aged between 19 to 33, and generation X, aged 68 and older. Generation Y are the biggest consumers of electronic media. Every day the total media consumption of generation Y is 10 hours 21 minutes while on the other hand generation X spend about 10 hours 15 minutes of electronic media consumption. The Internet via computer occupies most of the time for generation Y while TV is still the king for generation X.

McCrindle conducted a similar research in 2008 in which he found that Australians spent an average of 8 hours on the consumption of electronic media. He said:

“People would have thought back then with the growing sophistication of TV that we were going to spend more time in front of the TV. And yet TV time is declining. We have fragmented more as new platforms come around.

“If we take another five year view of things, such has been the speed of change; we’re probably going to see more of that fragmentation. One thing that goes with this fragmentation _ there is also the convenience factor and the portability and the mobility of the Smartphone. It’s become the one place to achieve multiple goals.”

With the advancement in technology, smartphones are now the third most popular electronic media device that is widely used among people of all age groups.
