Taiwan-based media outlet, Economic Daily News, has claimed in its latest report which was published on Friday, July 12th that the iPad Min with Retina display is not expected to hit retail outlets until 2014 owing to the shortage of Retina display panels. Prior to the shortage, Apple was looking to roll out the next gen of iPad Mini with Retina Display during the Christmas holiday shopping season just before the end of 2013 to achieve massive sales. However, now it appears that the shortage of Retina display panels has squashed hopes of releasing the second gen of the 7-inch slate in December. According to the report Apple has now pushed the launch date of the second gen iPad Mini to early 2014.

Nevertheless, this was not the only hit that the Economic Daily News given in its latest report about iPad Mini, as the media outlet also claimed that the California-based tech giant is developing two different editions of the 7-inch tablet, one without Retina Display and other with Retina Display. But it is still unclear how much difference there will be in the specs and pricing of the two versions of next gen iPad Mini. It is interesting to mention here that this was the second report that has claimed the development of two different editions of iPad Mini, so it will be interesting to see how tech analysts will react.

As far as the previous reports regarding the launch of next gen iPad Mini are concerned, initial reports from KGI securities suggested that the updated version of 7-inch slate will most likely ship sometime between September and November, considering the production issues and technical challenges Apple was facing with Retina displays.

“NPD DisplaySearch analysts have also been flip-flopping on their claims, beginning with a May report initially claiming that Apple would be releasing a non-Retina iPad mini update later this year with a Retina update to follow in early 2014, but within hours reporting on DisplaySearch’s claim was revised to indicate that a Retina display would be included in both of those updates”.

It is noteworthy to mention here that DisplaySearch has initially claimed that a slimmer version of iPad Mini without Retina display would arrive first at the end of 2013 and afterwards at the start of 2014 a Retina model of the slate would see the first light.
