Google Glass has been eagerly awaited by most technology fans ever since Google announced the head mounted device (HMD). The device will allow users to search maps, send text messages, snap pictures, shoot videos and do much more. Initially it was reported that Google Glass will work with Android powered smartphones only but according to the latest update the futuristic accessory from the Mountain View-based company will also interact well with the iPhone. This report came from TechCrunch, which suggested that the ability to navigate, send and receive text messages will be available to iPhone users through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection.

At present, iPhone users do not have the facility to get turn by turn direction from Google Glass and without them it will be pretty hard for a person to roam around in a new city or town, as the software of the device does not function when such a request is made. But soon they will be able to enjoy it once the new accessory will be released by the search engine giant. The purpose of providing this accessory is that Glass lacks a GPS receiver therefore in order to make its built-in compass work the head mounted devices relies on the smartphones so it can get the location data. However, this was not the only thing that Glass required by connecting with the smartphone. The HMD also needed to develop integration with HMD so it could also get internet connectivity.

The interesting thing about Glass is that the head mounted device just uses personal hotspot feature of the phone therefore it does not require any other app to run on the mobile phone. Here is a piece from the original report of TechCrunch that reveals how the site got to know about the update:

“To use text messaging and navigation on Google Glass, users currently have to pair it with an Android phone and install the Glass companion app on their phones. This will change very soon, however, one of the Google representatives in its New York office told me when I picked up my own unit yesterday afternoon. Glass, the Google employee told me, will soon be able to handle these features independent of the device the user has paired it to”.

Although, TechCrunch has a decent reputation when it comes to breaking news about new tech products, we should wait for an official confirmation before accepting or rejecting this report.
