The fourth generation iPad from Apple hit retail shelves in November 2012 and less than two months after its release rumours of a fifth generation iPad have already started to circulate. According to Macotakara the release of a new iPad should be expected in the next few months. The report goes on to say that the new iPad is going to be lighter and thinner then its predecessors. In addition to this the rumour also suggests that the latest version of the iPad will boast a display of 9.7 inches and it will probably make its debut in March 2013.

9to5Mac quotes Macotakara as saying that, “According to my inside source, iPad (5th) may be released in March, 2013. Source told that, design of this new iPad will be like iPad mini in detail, and be thinner and lightweight. (The expectation comes to have a small 4mm in height, 17mm in width, depth 2mm).”

The rumored fifth version of the iPad is not a confirmed report, but if the specs are compared to the fourth gen iPad  which measured 241.2 mm by 185.7 mm by 9.4 mm, it has not hard to notice that the fifth generation may be unexpectedly smaller than the current iPad version.

The report also claims that the alleged tablet has inherited its design from the iPad Mini and not the full sized iPad. Therefore, not only is the 5th gen iPad is going to be as slim as the 7.2 mm iPad Mini, it will also have the same look as the latest Apple tablet. The iPad Mini design was inspired by the white/silver and black/slate combinations of the iPhone 5, which did not surprise many Apple fans.

Apple followed a set launch cycle for the iPad up until the third generation versions. The technology giant usually scheduled release in March or April, but the iPhone-maker changed this sequence when it launched the 4th gen iPad in November of this year. However, with the launch of the 5th gen iPad predicted to be in March 2013 it seems that Apple is looking to follow the old cycle once again.

If the rumors turn out to be true then the fifth iPad launch will be a pretty aggressive move by Apple. Consumers will get a new iPad just five months after the launch of the fourth generation iPad and the iPad Mini.
